The Fugees star’s tax troubles have been brought to light.

Reports state that Hill failed to file tax reports in the mid 2000s, and could now face a heavy penalty. Hill has been charged with a total of 3 tax offences.

The New Jersey U.S. Attorney’s office filed charges against Lauryn Hill for failure to file tax returns for the years 2005, 2006, and 2007. Hill’s income totalled $1.6 million over those years, a large percentage of which was due to music royalties. However, Hill also owns and operates four companies, namely, Creations Music, Inc., Boogie Tours, Inc., L.H. Productions 2001, Inc. and Studio 22, Inc.

Lauryn Hill could face a maximum of $100,000 as a punishment for the unfiled taxes. Her court appearance over the matter is scheduled for June 29, 2012, when she will appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge, Michael A. Shipp.

The notoriously reclusive Lauryn Hill recently made a surprise appearance at this year’s Hot 97’s Summer Jam festival, appearing onstage alongside veteran rapper, Nas, to deliver some Fugees classics. Her performance included the classic track, Lost Ones, as well as a duet with Nas of If I Ruled The World.
