The R&B singer has finally given her opinion on Nas’ latest album artwork.
The Life Is Good cover features an image of Nas holding his ex-wife’s wedding dress, causing widespread speculation about Kelis’ reaction to the artwork.
However, in an interview with NME, Kelis revealed that she was not about to distract people from Nas’ artistic merit by bringing personal opinions into the mix. She was a tad evasive about her actual response to the artwork, saying that her opinion didn’t matter, since people should be focussing on Nas’ artistic enterprise and talent.
“My feelings about it are not really relevant, but you know at the end of the day Nas is an artist,” she explained. “And for whatever it's worth he's one of the greatest, and especially for what it is he does. So for me, I feel like especially for someone in hip-hop to kind of be genuine and honest, whatever the honesty is about, I think it's awesome. So my feelings about it aren't really necessarily valid, it's just the fact that as an artist I can respect that he wears his feelings on his sleeve.”
Not long ago, Nas spoke to Rap-Up about his decision to use the image on the cover of his album. He claimed that the picture was symbolic, stating, “My life is on that album cover.”
