21 Savage has taken fans by surprise with the announcement of his new album, “What Happened To The Streets?”, slated for release on December 12.

The news broke on December 8, accompanied by a dramatic black-and-white trailer shared by the rapper on Instagram.

The teaser, backed by an intense orchestral score, sets a foreboding mood. It features a mysterious figure walking through a shadowy alley, seemingly targeted by snipers. The clip transitions into a fast-paced montage reflecting moments from the character’s life, concluding with the album’s title and release date.

According to Spotify, the project will feature 14 brand-new tracks, none of which have been released as singles, adding to the element of surprise surrounding this drop.

The album cover, designed by Slawn, has quickly become a focal point of discussion. Drawing direct inspiration from Kerry James Marshall’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Shadow of His Former Self — a piece widely acknowledged for its exploration of identity and representation — Slawn offers a reinterpretation through his artwork.

This announcement marks 21 Savage’s first major musical move in 2025, aside from his feature on Summer Walker’s November hit “Get Yo Boy.”

His upcoming release follows the success of “American Dream”, his previous album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 in January 2024 with 133,000 album-equivalent units sold. That achievement marked his fourth time topping the chart and added 14 songs to the Billboard Hot 100.

“What Happened to the Streets?” officially arrives on December 12.
