50 Cent has openly expressed support for YNW Melly as the rapper seeks to overcome his murder charges and achieve release from jail, especially after securing new legal representation.
Melly recently revealed that he had dismissed his previous lawyers following the postponement of his retrial to 2027, a delay that leaves him incarcerated indefinitely until further developments. In addition, the rapper raised concerns about attorney Raven Liberty, alleging a conflict of interest due to an investigation into witness tampering related to his case.
To strengthen his defense, Melly enlisted Drew Findling, a high-profile attorney who has represented celebrities such as Kodak Black, Cardi B, Lil Durk, and even former president Donald Trump.
50 Cent endorsed this decision through Instagram, expressing optimism about the potential results. He shared his enthusiasm, commenting: “Melly gonna fvck around and come home fvcking wit Drew! That’s the right lawyer.”
The controversy surrounding Raven Liberty surfaced earlier in the year when Melly appeared in court, noting he had endured six years of incarceration without conviction. During this hearing, the rapper reacted with a mix of incredulity and dark humor, reacting with an ironic laugh and saying, “Damn.”
While waiting for retrial proceedings, Melly has actively sought release from prison, asserting that the conditions of his detainment are excessively cruel. He recently filed a lawsuit against Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony and his office, demanding immediate release due to the inhumane treatment he alleges to have endured.
The legal complaint described Melly’s situation as “beyond belief,” arguing that the state of his detention shocks the conscience in modern society. It revealed staggering details about his isolation, including a three-year prohibition on phone calls or visits with anyone from the outside world — even his own mother.
The document stated that Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, has been subjected to relentless isolation that borders on cruel and unusual punishment. It emphasized the injustice of these conditions, particularly noting that such treatment should be unimaginable in any civilized society governed by constitutional standards.
YNW Melly’s original trial faced complications when the jury failed to reach a unanimous decision regarding the allegations. He is accused of murdering two childhood friends, Chris “YNW Juvy” Thomas and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams, in 2018.
Investigators allege Melly staged the incident to look like a drive-by shooting.
