50 Cent provides insight into why Eminem chose not to pursue another leading role in a film after the success of “8 Mile” in 2002.

In a recent interview with GQ, published on July 30, the entertainment mogul discussed his experience creating the 2005 semi-autobiographical film “Get Rich or Die Tryin'”.

He drew comparisons between filmmaking and music production, noting that the key difference lies in control. According to 50 Cent, this lack of personal control in filmmaking is likely why Eminem decided not to continue acting in films.

“I said, ‘I wanna do a movie,'” 50 explained. “Then, when we got into it, it was really no control. So, this is why they couldn’t get [Eminem] back after ‘8 Mile’, because he can control things when we work on music in the studio. It’s not ready until we say it’s ready. We can do it and do it over or, you know, it doesn’t matter. ‘Til it’s perfected. Now, you’re just someone on a team of people that can make a great project. And then there’s a whole cast.”

When “8 Mile” took the world by storm in 2002, it quickly became a cultural landmark, raking in over $240 million globally and earning Eminem an Academy Award for the iconic track “Lose Yourself.”

Despite this massive achievement, the Detroit rapper refrained from delving deeper into acting, opting instead to make occasional cameos while staying deeply committed to his music career.

In contrast, 50 Cent charted a very different course. After taking center stage in “Get Rich or Die Tryin'”, he actively embraced acting roles and eventually reinvented himself as one of the entertainment industry’s most prominent television producers. His groundbreaking “Power” franchise became a massive hit, paving the way for a steadily expanding portfolio of film and TV ventures.
