50 Cent remembers a time when he apparently upset Jay-Z during the filming of a Reebok commercial back in 2003.
The relationship between the two iconic artists has always been tense, and this incident added more strain.
“See jay still owe me a favor for doing this s–t, they brought me the first G-Unit sample while we was recording this. I said I’m wearing my shoe in this, jay got so mad,” 50 wrote on Instagram on September 3 about not wearing an early G-Unit sneaker sample during the “Reebok (Interlude)” spot. “True story !”
In the clip, Jay and 50 are seen rapping in a studio about their successful new deals, helping to promote Jay’s S. Carter collection that featured his debut S. Carter Reebok sneaker.
Around the same time, 50 launched his own sneaker line with Reebok, and the G6 became incredibly popular for the brand.
Over two decades later, on August 20, the G6 made a comeback with a $130 price tag, quickly selling out at Reebok stores nationwide.
“Reebok took a chance on me early and it paid off in a big way for us both,” 50 told Complex in August about the landmark sneaker collaboration. “The G6 created a whole new category in sneaker culture and opened up new opportunities in the music space. It gave hip-hop artists a platform to go beyond being just artists. It wasn’t the norm back then.”
Is There Tension Between Jay-Z And 50 Cent?
For those who might not know, the relationship between 50 Cent and Jay-Z in recent years has mainly involved 50 occasionally making remarks about Jay and playfully provoking him.
Despite this, there hasn’t been an overt feud beyond the usual New York City rivalry, subtle jabs, and a shared respect for each other’s business acumen. While there’s no serious “beef,” it’s unlikely we’ll see them sharing a drink together anytime soon.
In recent years, the rivalry between 50 Cent and Jay-Z has been predominantly one-sided, with 50 Cent persistently teasing Jay-Z on social media platforms.
