50 Cent continues to fan the flames of his longstanding feud with Floyd Mayweather, taking aim at the legendary boxer over a $340 million lawsuit he filed against Showtime Networks.
Known for his sharp commentary, 50 Cent seized the opportunity to troll Mayweather, throwing jabs at his reading skills and advising him to return to the ring.
On February 4, 50 Cent ridiculed Mayweather’s alleged failure to spot discrepancies in his contracts and suggested the fighter step back into competition with Mike Tyson or Bud Crawford to compensate for the financial blow he claims to have suffered.
In an Instagram post, the rapper mocked Floyd by saying, “Oh no don’t cry now champ they beat you out of $320 million, you dumb ass. I told you let me read the contracts now lace up, You gotta look good fighting Mike, then maybe we can get Bud to beat your ass for some big money.”
These remarks harken back to a viral moment in 2014 when 50 Cent challenged Mayweather to a reading test, suggesting he read a page from “The Cat In The Hat” or “Harry Potter” for charity. The stunt was part of a public jab over Mayweather’s literacy skills, offering $750,000 to the boxer’s charity if he succeeded.
Mayweather filed the lawsuit on February 3 with a California state court, alleging that Showtime and its former sports president defrauded him of millions. In total, Mayweather claims the fraudulent scheme cost him $340 million.
His lawyer, Bobby Samini, defended Floyd’s pursuit of justice, stating that as one of boxing’s top pay-per-view stars, Mayweather generated immense revenue for Showtime and now seeks to recover funds he should have earned.
“Floyd is one of boxing’s biggest pay-per-view draws. He generated hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for Showtime,” Mayweather’s attorney Bobby Samini relayed to TMZ. “Mr. Mayweather now takes this fight to the courtroom to recover what he rightfully earned. Retiring undefeated at 50-0, Mr. Mayweather will go the distance in the courtroom just as he has in the ring.”
A spokesperson for Paramount, Showtime’s parent company, responded through “The Hollywood Reporter”, dismissing Floyd’s allegations as baseless and lacking merit. They declared their intent to address the claims through proper legal channels.
“These baseless claims lack legal or factual meri. We strongly reject them and will respond accordingly through the court process.”
Once considered close friends in the early 2000s, 50 Cent and Mayweather’s relationship fractured following a financial dispute in 2012. The fallout spurred a decade-long feud that shows no signs of fading anytime soon.
