Joey Bada$$âs new album entitled “Lonely At The Top” was supposed to arrive on Friday (August 1), but the Brooklyn rapper explained that the project has been delayed.
In a candid Instagram video, Joey revealed his frustrations with his record label Columbia Records as fans await his first full-length release since 2022.
âIâma just rip the Band-Aid off,â explained the 30-year-old. âBad news⊠the album is not dropping on Friday. The album is not dropping Aug. 1. Yep. I said it. Iâm f**king sorry. Iâm ashamed, Iâm f**king disappointed. I wanted to come on here and take accountability and responsibility because Iâm not ever gonâ leave yâall high and dry.â
He continued, âThis time itâs not may fault. its a lot of sh*t that goes on behind the scenes in this music industry that us artists donât expose to fans⊠My sh*t got pushed back because the label pushed my sh*t back.â
Adding, âMy album is signed, sealed, and delivered over a month ago. This ainât because of no sample clearances. This ainât because of no features. This ainât because of no clashing with another artist on the date. This is literally an Exhibit A of the label getting in the artistâs way ⊠I donât know if yâall noticed but all year, Iâve been moving on rogue time.â
Furthermore, the New York artist expressed his desire to leave his label.
âIâm signed to Columbia Records, but for the longest time I just ainât been f**king with them. All they do is get in my way. They really donât f**king contribute to nothing, especially this year. Iâm not sure if yâall know this, but all of my releases have been on YouTube. And itâs been that way because I ainât got time to wait on nobody, bro. Iâm way too f**king independent-minded and self-sufficient to sit around and wait for people who is not getting in line with the vision.â
âTime and time again, Iâm let down⊠trust me ainât none of yâall more mad than me. Yâall donât understand the battles that get fought in the shadows,â he said.
âThis is such a bad representation of the new energy Iâm on. it is what it is. The sh*t not coming out on Aug. 1st at this moment in time I cant even give all a date and I donât even want to give yâall a date in case they push that sh*t back.â
The rapper continued to put his label on notice.
âThese motherf**kers got âtil Monday to straighten up. Iâm giving them until Monday. Thatâs me being generous. F**k Columbia RecordsâŠSMD! F**k âem. I donât need yâall.â
