Doja Cat has released her latest single, “Jealous Type,” alongside a sultry music video that marks an exciting shift in her artistry.

Serving as the lead track from her forthcoming album “Vie”, the song is a polished blend of ’80s-inspired funk-pop, signaling a departure from the darker, rap-dominated style of her previous project “Scarlet”.

The video, directed by Boni Mata, embraces a nostalgic aesthetic with modern flair. It begins with Doja Cat watching a vintage reel-to-reel projection of herself, setting the stage for a narrative drenched in themes of identity and duality.

In the cinematic sequence, she confronts another version of herself, both figures clad in chic ’80s fashion. The two personas dance on opposites sides of a limousine window before meeting on the hood of the car, symbolically exploring the complexities within her personality.

Lyrically, “Jealous Type” delves into navigating a partner’s possessive behavior. In an interview, Doja shared that the album explores the concept of “love bombing,” with this song reflecting a moment of acceptance — embracing lessons learned when love evolves or fades away.

Produced by Jack Antonoff and Y2K, the track pairs introspective themes with an undeniable groove, while its retro-inspired visuals offer a stunning glimpse into the creative direction of Vie”. Fans can expect the album to drop on September 26.
