Cardi B and Kehlani breathe fresh energy into their collaboration “Safe” with a captivating new music video.
Featuring a nod to TLC’s iconic “Creep,” the visuals evoke nostalgia through matching silky pajamas and an engaging choreography that plays on the duo’s undeniable chemistry.
The track, from Cardi’s acclaimed sophomore album “Am I The Drama?”, transforms into a cinematic experience, blending retro vibes with a modern twist.
The video begins with Cardi and Kehlani moving in perfect sync, setting the tone with the compelling hook: “I don’t need a rich ni**a, just somebody that can make me feel, safe/ I dealt with a couple ni**as, but nobody ever made me feel, safe like you/ ’Cause when I’m with you, I just know I’m fine/ You take all the pressure off my mind (all the time)” — with Kehlani echoing “safe” in the background.
As the narrative progresses, Cardi portrays a pregnant girlfriend whose relationship spirals after an intense argument with her onscreen partner. A bouquet of roses crashes dramatically to the ground as tensions boil over, ending with her partner storming out.
Tragedy follows soon after when a gangster arrives at Cardi’s door, resulting in a heartbreaking turn as her character is fatally shot.
The story crescendos into an emotional climax when her partner returns home, overcome with grief at the devastating scene. The video strikes a balance between vivid storytelling and artistic homage, leaving viewers captivated and reflective.
