Rapper Erica Banks, born Erica Breaux, was detained for possession of ecstasy with intent to distribute near Atlanta on December 8.

The arrest followed a traffic stop in Brookhaven, approximately 20 miles from Atlanta. Banks was charged with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance — ecstasy — with the intent to distribute.

Banks was subsequently booked into DeKalb County Jail before being released after midnight on December 9.

This marks Banks’ second arrest in Georgia within the past year. In August, she was stopped at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport while attempting to board a flight to Houston. During routine checks by TSA, a black and gray Smith & Wesson firearm was discovered in her carry-on bag. Banks claimed she was unaware of the weapon’s presence.

It was later confirmed that the firearm had been stolen from South Carolina in 2018, leading to her arrest and booking into Clayton County Jail on charges of theft by receiving stolen property.

At the time, her attorney Jackie Patterson defended her case, asserting that Banks was not aware the weapon had been stolen. Patterson emphasized their intent to clear her name, with the goal of ensuring the charges would not affect her criminal record.

The case regarding the firearm incident remains ongoing.
