The final suspect in the murder of rapper Young Dolph is poised to accept a plea deal, more than four years after the tragic incident.
According to reports from Fox13 Memphis on February 12, 36-year-old Cornelius Smith has agreed to a plea deal after admitting his involvement as one of the gunmen responsible for killing Young Dolph outside Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies in Memphis on November 17, 2021.
Smith is expected to enter a guilty plea; however, details regarding his incarceration arrangements with the Tennessee Department of Corrections are still being finalized before the formal plea can proceed. The court has set March 30 as the hearing date for Smith to officially submit his plea.
Smith is one of three individuals arrested in connection with Young Dolph’s death. Back in 2024, Smith confessed to participating in the shooting alongside Justin Johnson.
He testified that they were promised $40,000 each to carry out the hit on the rapper. During Johnson’s 2024 trial, Smith testified against him, claiming that the murder was ordered by Big Jook, the late brother of rapper Yo Gotti.
Justin Johnson was ultimately convicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and felony possession of a firearm. He received a life sentence in 2024.
Meanwhile, Hernandez Govan, who allegedly orchestrated the murder under instructions from Big Jook, was acquitted of all charges. Last August, a jury found Govan not guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder.
