During a recent appearance on HOT 97’s “Mornings With Mero”, the Brooklyn rapper discussed her decision to feature Lanez, who is currently incarcerated at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion, on her newly released album “KWEEN”.
Young M.A revealed that she believed Lanez was the ideal choice for the dancehall-inspired track “Gyal Dem Ryte.”
Reflecting on their collaboration, Young M.A shared that she’s been a longtime supporter of the Canadian artist.
“I fuck with Tory. That’s peoples,” she said. “I’ve known Tory for a couple years now, and I’ve always been a fan of his music.”
The rapper elaborated that she chose Lanez for the track due to his versatility and his talent for capturing the dancehall-inspired vibe she had in mind.
“Everybody know, all the bros know: we put on Tory, bam, we go up,” she said. “And I like his sound, and I felt like he was just the perfect person for it, because I know he can get in that…bag.”
Young M.A emphasized that her support for Lanez goes beyond their musical collaborations.
“And, you know, I support him. Free that guy,” she added.
Young M.A. says “Free Tory” despite the fact he is in prison for shooting her female rap peer, Megan Thee Stallion during an argument in July 2020.
A jury found him guilty of three felony counts:
