4 years ago today, the music industry mourned over the passing of Coolio at the age of 59.

The iconic rapper died from the effects of fentanyl and other drugs in Los Angeles.

Coolio gained significant recognition with his 1995 hit “Gangsta’s Paradise”, which incorporated elements from Stevie Wonder’s 1976 track “Pastime Paradise”, earning him a Grammy for Best Solo Rap Performance.

Throughout his career, which started in the late 1980s, Coolio received five additional Grammy nominations. His breakthrough came with the 1994 debut album “It Takes A Thief”, released under Tommy Boy Records. The lead single from this album, “Fantastic Voyage”, climbed to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
