Boosie BadAzz has avoided prison time in his federal gun case after a judge ruled he will not serve additional time behind bars.
On Friday (January 9), the Louisiana rapper appeared in a California federal courtroom for sentencing after pleading guilty last summer to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors had recommended a 24-month prison sentence followed by three years of supervised release. However, legal affairs reporter Meghann Cuniff revealed that the judge instead sentenced Boosie to time served, along with three years of supervised release and a $50,000 fine.
Ahead of his court appearance, Boosie — whose real name is Torence Hatch — posted videos on social media showing himself dressed in a striking blue suit and sporting a luxury AP watch. In one post, he confidently declared: “Let’s get it!”
The case dates back to 2023 when Boosie was arrested in San Diego following a traffic stop. Authorities found multiple firearms in his car after noticing a gun in his waistband during an Instagram Live video.
While local authorities initially dismissed the charges, the federal government later took over the case. Although a federal judge threw out the charges last July, prosecutors refiled them shortly after. By August, Boosie opted for a plea deal and has since been awaiting sentencing.
The rapper had previously expressed hope that former President Donald Trump might grant him a pardon. In November, he voiced optimism that Trump would intervene, though it seems the former president has been preoccupied with other matters.
