Keefe D‘s book from 2019, which outlines his alleged role in the murder of Tupac Shakur, is poised to be a pivotal element in the forthcoming trial.

A recent report confirmed that prosecutors will heavily rely on Compton Street Legend. In this memoir, Keefe D recounts the events leading up to the 1996 shooting, including his assertion that Tupac was reaching for a weapon before shots were fired from the vehicle he was in.

Law enforcement has stated that no weapon was discovered in the car containing Tupac and Suge Knight.

Keefe D’s legal team has tried to exclude the book from the trial, arguing it was fictionalized for commercial gain and contesting which parts he actually authored, as it was co-written. He has even claimed he is unaware of the book’s contents, as he’s never read it and the co-author merely expanded on his story.

However, Judge Carli Kierny has ruled that the book’s statements are admissible, deciding that Keefe D had effectively endorsed the content as his own, citing his frequent labeling of the memoir as revealing the “real truth.”

The memoir also describes a confrontation between Tupac and Orlando Anderson earlier that evening, which prosecutors believe triggered the subsequent shooting.

Keefe D has previously admitted to being in the car that approached Tupac and Suge at a Las Vegas intersection where the shooting took place. Tupac succumbed to his injuries six days later at the age of 25.

The trial is now underway with jury selection starting on Monday. Keefe D appeared in court as Nevada Judge Carli Kierny questioned 75 potential jurors about any possible conflicts, medical issues, or language barriers that might impede their duty. Family and fans of Tupac gathered outside the courthouse.

Expected to last roughly a month, the trial could result in a life sentence for Keefe D if he is convicted.
