The South is mourning the loss of two influential figures this week.

Earlier, news surfaced about the untimely passing of Atlanta rapper Alley Boy at the age of 42. Now, additional reports have confirmed the death of Bigga Rankin, a pivotal DJ known for his significant contributions to the Southern hip-hop scene.

His family has shared a statement confirming that he passed away in the early morning hours of July 20.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that the patriarch of our family, Billy ‘Bigga Rankin’ Plummer, passed away earlier this morning on July 20th, 2026. We know how much he meant to his wife, his children, and the entire city of Jacksonville. As we grieve the loss of a legend, we the family ask that our privacy is respected,” he wrote.

“The funeral arrangements and celebration of life of Bigga Rankin will be shared as soon as they are available.”

The cause of his death has not been disclosed yet.

For over three decades, Bigga Rankin has built a notable legacy as one of the South’s most esteemed and reliable tastemakers. Originally from Jacksonville, FL, he has been instrumental in advancing the careers of artists such as Rick Ross, Plies, Gucci Mane, Jeezy, and T.I.

This contribution earned him recognition as one of the most influential DJs and promoters in the industry. In addition to his record-breaking prowess, he worked as an A&R representative for Think It’s A Game Records and eventually took on the role of vice president with Hittmenn DJs.
