DJ Quik’s son, David Marvin Blake Jr., was found guilty of a 2022 murder after being convicted on December 4.

A Los Angeles County jury determined Blake was guilty of second-degree murder and shooting from a motor vehicle.

The conviction stems from the May 25, 2022, fatal shooting of Julio Moises Cardoza Jr. in Downey, California. The incident followed an altercation between Cardoza and another man.

Blake, positioned in a nearby car, fired shots at Cardoza before fleeing the scene. Cardoza sustained multiple gunshot wounds and later died at a hospital. Blake was apprehended the day after in Porter Ranch, California, and was held in custody with bail set at $2 million.

Blake, who had pursued a budding music career under the name D. Blake, featured on his father DJ Quik‘s 2014 album “The Midnight Life”. He also released individual tracks such as “Official,” “Rollin” featuring Kinglife Herb, and a remix of “I Wanna Know” with Dom Kennedy.

At the time of the shooting, Blake served as a liaison for Compton City Councilman Isaac Galvin. In 2022, Galvin was removed from office under allegations of election fraud and later pleaded guilty in 2024 to accepting bribes for cannabis permits.

Blake’s sentencing is scheduled for February 6, 2026. He faces a potential sentence of 40 years to life in state prison.
