25 years ago today, Dr. Dre released his second studio album, “2001,” on November 16, 1999 via Aftermath Entertainment and Interscope Records as the follow-up to his 1992 debut album, “The Chronic.”
The project was produced mainly by Dr. Dre and Mel-Man, as well as Lord Finesse, and features several guest contributions from Hittman, Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Xzibit, Eminem, and Nate Dogg.
It debuted at #2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 516,000 copies in its first week. It produced three singles that attained chart success and has been certified 6Ă— Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
