Drake is grieving the passing of his longtime collaborator, Tay Keith, who tragically passed away last week.
The renowned rapper took to social media on June 19 to share a touching message in honor of the acclaimed producer, who passed away on Thursday at just 29 years old.
“Endless and eternal gratitude for your spirit and your contributions to this thing that we all love so much,” Drake wrote on Instagram. “You will be deeply missed.”
The Toronto artist shared a heartfelt tribute accompanied by a memorial image that displayed the words “In Loving Memory” and “Rest in Peace,” centered around a black-and-white photo of Tay Keith, adorned with illustrated roses.
Widely recognized for his signature trap production, the Memphis-born producer rose to become one of hip-hop’s most influential hitmakers. Over the course of his career, he achieved 11 top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 and was behind four chart-topping hits, including Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” and Drake’s “First Person Shooter.”
Tay Keith holds the distinction of earning the most #1 spots on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this decade, with a total of six.
Tragically, Keith was discovered unresponsive in his Nashville apartment during a welfare check conducted by Metro Nashville Police on Thursday. The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
His family has announced that details about the memorial arrangements will be shared at a later time.
“It is with profound sadness that we confirm the passing of BryTavious ‘Tay Keith’ Chambers,” his family said in a statement sent to Billboard on Friday.
“BryTavious was a visionary producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and cultural force whose work helped define the sound of a generation,” the family added.
“From Memphis to the global stage, he shaped countless hit records and left a lasting mark on music and culture. He was deeply committed to creating opportunities for others through his company, Drumatized, supporting emerging songwriters, producers, and artists.”
