Drake continues to show unwavering support for Tory Lanez, calling for his release from prison in a recent social media post.
While playfully teasing Genius executive Rob Markman for failing to rap a Lil Wayne lyric, Drake took the opportunity to reaffirm his stance, writing: “Of course this Goof Markman couldn’t finish the bar… free Tory.”

Lanez has not publicly responded to Drake’s latest endorsement, but Drizzle has been a consistent advocate for him. Earlier this year, he shared a petition urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to grant Lanez a pardon. The petition emerged in the wake of Lanez’s 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, less than two years into his incarceration.
Drake’s support for Lanez reflects a sense of loyalty to his fellow Canadian artist that hasn’t wavered, even after the conviction. Last year, Drake posted a photo of Lanez with the caption “3 you,” amplifying his backing even amid widespread controversy surrounding the case.
However, Drake himself became entangled in criticism related to the incident when listeners identified lyrics from his 2022 track “Circo Loco” as a possible reference to Megan’s shooting. In the song, he rapped, “This bitch lie about getting shots, but she still she a stallion/ She don’t even get the joke, but she still smiling.”
Megan Thee Stallion swiftly responded online, denouncing such remarks as an exploitation of her traumatic experience. She wrote, “Stop using my shooting for clout bitch ass N-ggas! Since when tf is it cool to joke abt women getting shot! You n-ggas especially RAP N-GGAS ARE LAME! Ready to boycott bout shoes and clothes but dog pile on a black woman when she say one of y’all homeboys abused her.”
She further condemned those defending Lanez: “And when the mf facts come out remember all y’all hoe ass favorite rappers that stood behind a N-gga that SHOT A FEMALE. People attack me y’all go up for it , i defend myself now I’m doing too much … every time it never ends and this did NOT happen until I came out and said I got shot … y’all don’t fwm okay cool fuck it bye.”
The polarized views surrounding Tory Lanez’s case remain a flashpoint for debate within the music industry and beyond, amplifying complex discussions around loyalty, accountability, and justice.
