Fetty Wap is set to return home just in time for the holidays — next year.
The New Jersey native, who is currently serving a six-year sentence for drug trafficking charges, has had his release date moved forward to early December 2026.
The rapper, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, faced indictment and arrest in October 2021 on federal drug distribution charges. Released on a $500,000 bond, Fetty Wap was required to wear a GPS monitoring device as part of his bail conditions.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Fetty, along with five co-conspirators, was involved in the distribution of more than 100 kilograms of illegal drugs. His role in the operation made him the last of the suspects to be taken into custody.
By 2023, following an earlier violation of his bail terms, Fetty Wap accepted responsibility by pleading guilty to conspiracy charges involving cocaine distribution and possession. He received a six-year federal prison sentence, followed by five years of supervised release.
In relation to the case, FBI assistant director Michael Driscoll commented on the wider impact of such criminal activity. He highlighted how the drug trafficking network afflicted communities through addiction and overdoses, spanning thousands of miles from the West Coast. Driscoll also underscored how the inclusion of prominent figures like a Grammy-nominated rapper and a corrections officer illustrated the extent of corruption within drug trade operations.
Recently, on November 14, US Weekly confirmed the artist’s updated release date of December 9, 2026. However, specific details surrounding the accelerated timeline have not yet been disclosed.
Originally slated for release on March 13, 2027, the “Trap Queen” artist had his release date bumped up gradually over time. In September this year, reports indicated he would be allowed to walk free on January 8, 2027 — now shortened even further to December of the prior year.
Investigators revealed that between June 2019 and June 2020, Fetty Wap and his associates trafficked significant quantities of cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine across New Jersey and Long Island. The probe also led authorities to seize about $1.5 million in cash alongside firearms and ammunition, including two handguns, a rifle, and additional pistols.
