Glasses Malone makes waves with his provocative new music video “Wanted”, tackling what he considers a dire cultural crossroads in Hip-Hop.
The Westcoast rapper’s latest visual explores the schism between the genre’s raw origins and its current commercialized state, framing the narrative as a fictional courtroom drama titled “The State of Hip-Hop vs. The West Coast.”
In a bold creative choice that has ignited conversation, Malone features a Drake look-alike as a key figure in his metaphorical trial. The impersonator represents what Malone interprets as the global Rap icon’s betrayal of Hip-Hop’s foundational values. In one of the video’s most striking moments, the faux Drake steps forward after “losing a rap battle” and agrees to testify for the prosecution — a clear jab at the unwritten honor code governing lyrical sparring in Hip-Hop.
Under dramatic lighting, the stand-in solemnly swears on the Bible before pointing an accusatory finger directly at Malone, setting the stage for a visual allegory layered in critique and symbolism. Many view this scene as a reference to tensions stemming from Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” and Drake’s subsequent lawsuit against Universal Music Group following its release.
Malone has been unapologetic about his artistic vision, openly criticizing Drake through social media during the rollout of “Wanted”. He drew parallels between Drake and Gunna, another rapper accused of cooperating with authorities, stating that Drake’s lawsuits symbolized an attempt to stifle Hip-Hop’s creative freedom.
