Joey Badass takes aim at Westcoast rappers and J. Cole on his new song entitled “Sorry Not Sorry.”
The track, produced by Conductor Williams and Mario Luciano, sees Joey proudly representing his New York roots. He raps about “51 Hart Street, 193 Vernon Avenue, n-ggas with attitudes/Man, I’m bigging up my city, that’s something I had to do,” hinting at a subtle dig at the West Coast.
On the first verse, Joey spits: “Might deletе later, I know damn sure that Joey won’t/ Fuck it, I want all thе smoke (Yeah), put my credit on the line/ ‘Cause n***as can’t fuck with me, we talkin’ ’bout it line for line.”
Badass calls out what he sees as excessive praise for Westcoast rappers with lines like “Too much West Coast dick lickin’/ I’m hearing n-ggas throwin’ rocks, really ain’t shit stickin’/ ‘Cause if we’re talking bar for bar, really it’s slim pickings/ I rap like I draw pentagrams and kill chickens, n-gga/ Fuck around with your soul like Ether, quick for a feature/ This that black Air Force energy comin’ out your speaker.”
Joey lays claim to the title of “King Of New York,” a position previously held by legends like Jay-Z, Nas, and The Notorious B.I.G.
“Sorry Not Sorry” follows Joey’s 2024 single “Tell Me” featuring Chlöe. His last album was 2022’s “2000,” which boasted features and contributions from Westside Gunn, Larry June, Chris Brown, JID, Statik Selektah, and Chuck Strangers.
