In 2023, Kanye West was sued by a construction consultant who claims he was subjected to “extreme danger” during his engagement with the artist’s property renovation.
Throughout the years, Kanye West has encountered numerous legal challenges. One notable case arose in 2023 when Tony Saxon, a construction consultant, filed a lawsuit against the rapper. Saxon alleged that West had hired him in 2021 to manage renovations for his Malibu residence, which has since been sold.
The agreement reportedly required Saxon to also reside at the site and provide 24-hour security support, with compensation set at $20,000 per week. However, Saxon contends that he received only one payment of $20,000. He further claims that West instructed him to undertake alterations to the house that placed him in “extreme danger.”
Such directives allegedly included bringing in large generators and dismantling all electricity and windows within the property. After refusing to comply, Saxon states he faced threats, leading to his exit from the project.
Earlier this month, West responded with a countersuit against Saxon, alleging that he had “wrongfully” filed a $1.8 million lien on the property. The countersuit accuses Saxon of orchestrating a “aggressive publicity campaign” aimed at pressuring the artist, discouraging potential transactions, and extracting payment for disputed claims still under litigation.
West insists that Saxon is not entitled to compensation for his work on the property due to his lack of a contractor’s license, according to Rolling Stone.
However, during a recent court hearing, a Los Angeles County judge dismissed this argument, stating the matter would need to be decided by a jury.
“We’re looking forward to presenting evidence and testimony to the jury in March,” Saxon’s lawyer, Ronald Zambrano, said after the hearing.
This legal setback coincides with anticipation surrounding West’s upcoming album, “Bully”, scheduled for release on January 30.
