Kehlani is not silent on the Israel-Hamas war, standing next to Palestine in her new music video, “Next 2 U.” The track is another single from the Oakland-born artist’s forthcoming album entitled “Crash.”

It opens with text from a poem from Palestinian-American writer Hala Alyan before cutting to the singer and another dancer on top of a car. The song is about Kehlani wanting to protect those she cares about. In other shots, the singer performs in front of a Palestinian flag.

The anti-war quote reads, “Keep your moon / We have our own / Keep your army / We have our name / Keep your flag/ We have fruits and in / All the right colors.”

Directed by Cole Santiago, the visual features standout choreography by Amari “Monster” Marshall, adding a dynamic visual element to the track.

“You’re more than the sun, you’re why the sun beams / Your love is high, wide like a river,” she sings. “And if I die, I already fell and I’m floating / Ooh, I know what it’s like to feel like I’m dyin’ in peace.”

Additionally, it closes with a message about the children killed by Israeli forces in Gaza.

“We tried to make a scroll honoring the names of thousands of deceased children,” it reads. “The list was so long that our fastest scroll at 3 minutes was illegible.” Instead, Kehlani is encouraging fans to read the list of names “at your own pace.”

Slated to arrive on June 21, “Crash” will mark Kehlani’s fourth studio album, following 2022’s “Blue Water Road.”
