Lil Nas X has entered a not guilty plea to four felony charges stemming from an incident last week involving allegations of assaulting police officers.

According to reports shared by Reuters, the Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, faces three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting arrest. His bail was set at $75,000, with an additional court mandate requiring him to attend an outpatient drug rehabilitation program.

A conviction on these charges could lead to a prison sentence of up to 5 years.

Authorities have suggested that Lil Nas X was under the influence of drugs during the incident; however, his attorney, Christy O’Connor, refuted this claim, describing the occurrence as “an aberrant episode in an otherwise productive life.”

The altercation reportedly took place in the early hours of August 21 in Studio City, Los Angeles. Witnesses say Lil Nas X was walking the streets wearing only underwear and cowboy boots before charging at officers who attempted to apprehend him.

Outside the courthouse, the artist’s father, Robert Stafford, spoke to reporters and expressed that his son deeply regrets the situation. Stafford noted that Lil Nas X is committed to seeking help and added, “Just keep him in your prayers.”
