Lil Wayne has joined the chorus of well-wishers celebrating Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s recent engagement.
While on tour in Kansas City, home of Kelce’s NFL team, the Chiefs, the rapper made a playful nod to the superstar couple during his performance. Paying symbolic homage to Swift, he sported a cardigan and addressed the audience with enthusiasm: “I’m dressed in spirit. In the spirit of my man Travis and my girl, you already know Taylor. Traylor! That’s what we call them. Congratulations.”

The moment comes amid Wayne’s reflections on his own experiences with the NFL and its events. Earlier this year, he voiced his disenchantment with the idea of performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, particularly after being passed over for an opportunity in his hometown of New Orleans.
Expressing his disinterest, Wayne shared: “Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on. They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.”
According to Wayne, the NFL had initially hinted at the possibility of him taking the coveted halftime stage, allegedly encouraging him to boost his public visibility beforehand. He noted his participation in unfamiliar social circles — like Michael Rubin’s all-white parties and interactions with Tom Brady — activities that were unusual for him.
“To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, asses to kiss and not kiss,” he explained. “If you notice, I was a part of things I’ve never been a part of. Like [Michael] Rubin’s all-white parties. I’m doing shit with Tom Brady. That was all for that. You ain’t never seen me in them types of venues. I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the stu’, smokin’ and recording.”
Despite his efforts, Wayne said the NFL later claimed it lacked control over the Super Bowl halftime selection process, leaving him feeling slighted. He concluded: “We ain’t in charge [of the Super Bowl halftime show]. All of a sudden, according to them, they got curved. So, I’m going to have to just settle with whatever they say.”
