Lil Wayne might be called to testify in Young Thug‘s ongoing YSL Rico trial in relation to his 2015 tour bus shooting, despite having his name removed from the witness list in early April.

Judge Ural Glanville denied Fulton County prosecutors’ attempt to introduce clips of Weezy talking about Young Thug as evidence in the YSL RICO trial on Wednesday (May 1), explaining that they won’t be allowed unless the rapper testifies.

“It seems like you all are trying really hard not to call [Lil Wayne] and that’s your choice,” Judge Glanville told Chief Deputy DA Adriane Love, who persistently argued for the videos. “If you don’t call him, my ruling will stand on these particular exhibits that you are trying to introduce.”

The clip saw Lil Wayne talk about Thugger, and is connected to a 2015 incident where Jimmy Winfrey, also known as Thug’s affiliate PeeWee Roscoe, was accused of shooting Weezy’s tour bus while in Georgia. He plead guilty to six of the 27 charges and was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 years of probation, but had his conviction overturned in 2018.

While Lil Wayne making it into the courtroom is not guaranteed, the driver of his tour bus at the time, Alvin Lewis, is set to take the stand on Monday (May 6).

Wayne isn’t the only rapper the state has considered having testify during the trial. During the last update to the witness list, Birdman, Rich Homie Quan, and YFN Lucci all still remained as possible witnesses the state could call to the courthouse.
