Superstar Lizzo is being sued by three former tour dancers who accuse the popular singer of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment through sexual, racial and religious harassment in several incidents between 2021 and 2023, according to a civil lawsuit filed on Tuesday (August 1).

The legal complaint seeks unspecified damages and names Melissa Viviane Jefferson, known professionally as Lizzo, her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., and Shirlene Quigley, captain of the performer’s dance team.

According to the dancers, Lizzo – normally known as an advocate for body positivity and self-love – even allegedly pressured one of them to touch a nude performer at an Amsterdam club.

At the club, the dancers claim that Lizzo allegedly “began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas. Lizzo then turned her attention to Ms. Davis and began pressuring Ms. Davis to touch the breasts of one of the nude women.”

“The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing,” the dancers’ lawyer Zambrano said in a statement.

Representatives for Lizzo have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
