Numskull of Luniz is taking his Bay Area roots on a tropical detour, linking with Digital Underground for a three-day New Year’s takeover in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize, December 31 through January 2.

And if you know the Bay, you already know this ain’t just another New Year’s link-up. This is history with a boarding pass.

Luniz came through when the Bay was loud, independent and unmistakably itself. “I Got 5 On It” didn’t just get played — it got passed around, blasted out trunks, bounced through house parties and eventually crossed every damn border in sight. That record became part of the culture without ever losing its Oakland DNA.

Digital Underground came from that same tradition of doing shit their own way — funk-heavy, funny, funky, unpredictable and unapologetically Bay.

Different crews. Different records. Same soil.

Now put those worlds together, throw ’em in Belize and let the bass do what it does.

Numworld Music LLC is bringing the three-day experience to San Pedro, with the New Year’s countdown sitting right in the middle of it all. December 31 through January 2. Three days to get away, get down and let two pieces of Bay Area hip-hop history remind everybody why that sound traveled in the first place.

Because the Bay never needed a co-sign. It just needed a speaker. And apparently, this time, that speaker is getting plugged in somewhere south of the border.
