Max B has officially regained his freedom.
The 47-year-old Harlem rapper, born Charly Wingate, was released from Northern State Prison in Newark, New Jersey, on Sunday (November 9), after spending approximately 15 years in prison.
Videos circulating online captured the rapper reuniting with loved ones, including his close friend and collaborator French Montana. The heartfelt embrace between the two was a powerful reminder of their long-standing bond that has endured through the years.
French Montana took to social media to celebrate the special occasion of Max B’s release, which coincidentally aligned with Montana’s own birthday on November 9.
Montana expressed his joy, writing: “CANT MAKE THIS UP ! MY BROTHER REALLY CAME HOME ON MY B DAY ! HAMDULILLAH WALKED IT DOWN ! NO MORE FREE YOU.”
Max B had been hinting at his release for months, even calling into The Joe Budden Podcast earlier this year to announce, “We got a date! I’ve got November 9, 2025, baby!” Now, it appears the Wave God has made good on that promise.
Max B faced a 75-year sentence in 2009 for his involvement in a fatal robbery at a hotel in New Jersey. However, in 2016, his sentence was reduced to 20 years following a guilty plea for aggravated manslaughter.
Max did not physically attend the New Jersey crime scene, but prosecutors contended that he was involved in planning the robbery that resulted in a man’s death.
The rapper, known for the track “Wavy Crockett,” was sentenced along with his stepbrother, Kelvin Leerdam, who received a life sentence plus an additional 35 years after being convicted by a jury for the fatal shooting of one of the victims.
