After being called out by Vanessa Bryant, Meek Mill tweeted early Tuesday (Feb. 23) that he had apologized to Vanessa hours after she criticized the rapper for lyrics about her late husband, Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, which she considered to be “extremely insensitive and disrespectful.”
I apologized to her in private earlier today not to the public… Nothing I say on my page directed to a internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman! If you care about someone grieving change the subject!

Last week, Meek’s lyrics to a yet-to-be-released song titled “Don’t Worry (RIP Kobe)” were leaked online. They contained the following lines, which are an apparent reference to the January 26, 2020, helicopter crash that killed Vanessa Bryant’s husband, their daughter Gianna and seven others.
This bitch I’m f*ckin’ always tell me that she love but she ain’t ever showed me/ If I ever lack, I’m goin’ out with my chopper/ It by another Kobe.
Vanessa was seemingly upset and took to Instagram Story days after the leaked snippet to call him out for his ignorance.
Dear @meekmill, I find this line to be extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Period. I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better than this. If you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and tact.
