NBA YoungBoy reportedly asked for $2 million from 6ix9ine for a guest feature, according to DJ Akademiks during a recent livestream where he recounted the unsuccessful collaboration attempt.
As one of the most prominent rappers of his generation, NBA YoungBoy’s collaboration fees are unsurprisingly high.
DJ Akademiks recalled that 6ix9ine, expecting the cost to align with the $300K price point promoted on Instagram, had his team reach out for a potential feature.
However, instead of the expected amount, NBA YoungBoy’s label initially priced the request at $1 million. Ak speculated that the higher fee was due to the potential benefit the collaboration could bring to 6ix9ine’s career, especially after the backlash and allegations of snitching he faced. Although 6ix9ine’s label reportedly agreed to the $1 million, upon further negotiation, YB’s team escalated the price to $2 million.
Reflecting on the situation during his livestream, Akademiks remarked that this drastic price hike could feel dehumanizing. He explained it as, “You’ve got to imagine how someone’s feeling. You don’t even feel like a person. Like you’re posting on Instagram that it’s $300K for a feature. 6ix9ine comes through, and you’re like, ‘It’s $1 million.'”
Ultimately, creative differences led to the collaboration falling apart. The track in question, “GINÉ,” was released as a solo single by 6ix9ine in 2022. That same year, on Clubhouse, NBA YoungBoy shared in a discussion with Akademiks that he remained open to potentially working with 6ix9ine despite widespread criticism.
During the chat, YB candidly stated his view: “I’ll do a song with 6ix9ine before I do a song with half of these p***y a** n***as, ya hear me?” he declared.
Akademiks warned him about potential industry backlash for making such a move, to which he curtly responded: “The industry can suck my d*ck. I ain’t got sh*t … I ain’t got nothin’ against him. That sh*t ain’t gon nun to do with me. I wasn’t in his situation. Half of these p***y a** n***as that be talkin’ don’t know what they’d do if they were in his situation. What the f*ck that got to do with me or anybody else?”
