Nelly and his iconic group, the St. Lunatics, are gearing up for a major return in 2026, with none other than Metro Boomin, one of hip-hop’s most celebrated producers, steering the project.

The announcement came during Nelly’s 2025 “Black and White Ball” on December 14. During the event, the St. Louis rapper excitedly shared that Metro Boomin, a fellow St. Louis native, will take on the role of executive producer for the group’s forthcoming album — a comeback 25 years in the making.

“St. Lunatics, 2026, executive produced by Metro Boomin,” he said while addressing attendees at the annual charity event. “St. Louis, we in the building! We turning up 2026 one time!”

While the album remains untitled for now, it will serve as a follow-up to the group’s debut record “Free City” from 2001, released during the peak of Nelly’s meteoric rise following his breakout album “Country Grammar”.

This new project follows the St. Lunatics’ unexpected reunion in October 2024 at the American Music Awards. At the event, Nelly, Murphy Lee, Spud City, Kyjuan, and Slo Down thrilled fans by performing classics like “Air Force Ones,” “Ride Wit Me,” and “Hot In Herre.”
