Playboi Carti has been charged with assault following an incident earlier this month in Utah, where he allegedly attacked a limousine driver while on tour.
Reports from TMZ identify the rapper, whose legal name is Jordan Carter, as having been charged with assault on October 2. This stems from allegations that he punched the driver, Carl Reynolds, during a heated exchange. Additionally, Carti is accused of physically harming his girlfriend during the altercation.
Reynolds, who was hired to transport Carti and his entourage around Salt Lake City during the rapper’s tour stop, claims that he picked up Carti and his girlfriend for a rehearsal before the scheduled performance the next night.
According to Reynolds’ account, an argument broke out between the couple during the ride, prompting him to pull over in hopes of diffusing the situation.
The police report details that Carti allegedly became upset and struck his girlfriend during the argument. Although Reynolds did not witness this firsthand, he said that she appeared to double over while clutching her chest.
Moments later, Carti reportedly turned on Reynolds, punching him on the left side of his face unexpectedly. According to the driver, this resulted in visible redness and injury to his jaw.
During police questioning, both Carti’s girlfriend and security guard — who had been following the SUV in a separate vehicle — attempted to take responsibility for the altercation. However, Carti himself admitted to striking Reynolds, justifying his actions by claiming he was frustrated with where the driver had stopped to let them out.
Authorities in Wasatch County are continuing to investigate the matter. Reynolds, meanwhile, is reportedly consulting legal counsel but emphasized his primary concern is ensuring Carti does not harm others moving forward, including his girlfriend.
