Grammy-winning trailblazing Hip-Hop group Salt-N-Pepa will celebrate three decades of their classic fourth full-length album, “Very Necessary,” with the release of “Very Necessary (30th Anniversary Edition),” out October 20, 2023. On Monday (September 11), Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) announced its plan to release the special limited edition.
Originally released on October 12, 1993, “Very Necessary” was the 4th studio album recorded by the pioneering group of Cheryl “Salt” James, Sandra “Pepa” Denton and Deidra “DJ Spinderella” Roper. It climbed to the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 and eventually moved over 5 million copies in the U.S., going quintuple-platinum. In addition to being available as a limited-edition deluxe double LP and a two-CD deluxe package, the album’s 30thanniversary rollout will include a digital deluxe version.
“Very Necessary (30th Anniversary Edition)” will make landfall on October 20 to coincide with the project’s 30th birthday and Hip-Hop’s 50th.
The album contains three of Salt-N-Pepa’s greatest hits, “Shoop,” “Whatta Man” and “None of Your Business.”
Per Billboard, Pepa reacted to the upcoming release with the following statement:
“When we started out, people questioned if hip hop would even last. Here we are, 30 years later, celebrating the anniversary of Very Necessary, ourselves as women, and our contributions to the 50-year legacy of hip hop. It’s a beautiful thing! Thank you to all our fans for keeping Salt-N-Pepa alive and relevant all these years.”
