Soulja Boy was released from custody on Tuesday (August 5) after California prosecutors declined to file charges following his arrest over the weekend.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office revealed the rapper’s release.
“A case was declined due to insufficient evidence,” wrote the spokesperson. Jail records show the rapper was released Tuesday afternoon, shortly before 2 pm.
The 35-year-old “Crank That” rapper was arrested on August 3 after Los Angeles police discovered a gun in a car that he was a passenger in, around 2:30 am.
According to sources, the vehicle was pulled over because it had tinted windows. “[Officers] discovered a firearm in the rear seat near a suspect. Both the suspect and the driver denied owning the firearm,” reads the worksheet.
The arrest adds to Soulja Boy’s history of legal troubles. In April, a jury awarded $4 million to a former girlfriend who accused him of assault and harassment. He also has a 2014 conviction for carrying a loaded weapon.
