Suge Knight, a highly controversial figure in hip-hop, is preparing to share his side of the story from prison with the release of his memoir, “Your Pain Is My Joy”, set to debut on August 4.

Known for his formidable negotiating tactics, ruthless business strategies, and connections to the Bloods gang, Knight rose to prominence as one of the most intimidating power players in the industry.

Hailing from Compton, he helped elevate Death Row Records to legendary status during rap’s mid-’90s golden era, spearheading a lineup of iconic artists such as 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, and Dr. Dre.

“Your Pain Is My Joy” promises to offer readers a thrilling journey, delving into his clashes with rival Diddy and, for the first time, providing his perspective on the tragic events surrounding 2Pac’s murder during the 1996 Las Vegas drive-by shooting, where he was a passenger.

Published by Simon & Schuster’s Gallery Books imprint, a synopsis for the ā€œunapologeticā€ memoir reads: ā€œSuge Knight was handed nothing in life. Anything he ever had, he fought for, knowing that he had to take what he deserved. Now in this unflinching memoir from behind bars, Suge takes readers on a thrilling ride through the Golden Age of Rap and the streets of Compton.ā€

The synopsis continues: ā€œEveryone in the rap game has a story about Suge Knight. Now, for the first time, Suge is telling his side. From his legendary encounter with Vanilla Ice to blow-out brawls with P. Diddy and the night when he and Tupac got shot in Vegas, Suge doesn’t shy away from the controversy that has followed him his entire life. He pulls no punches, asks for no forgiveness, and explains exactly how he battled his way to the top.ā€

Knight played a prominent role in the intense East Coast-West Coast rivalry of the 1990s but has faced numerous legal issues in the years that followed. Currently, he is serving a 28-year prison sentence in California for voluntary manslaughter, stemming from the January 2015 incident in which he fatally struck Terry Carter with his car.
