Memphis producer Tay Keith‘s cause of death was disclosed three months following his untimely passing on June 18 at the age of 29.

As reported by ABC News, an autopsy from Nashville’s Office of the Medical Examiner released on September 17 confirmed that he died from an accidental drug overdose.

The toxicological analysis identified a lethal combination of mitragynine, 7-hydroxy mitragynine, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, and ketamine. The report attributed the cause of death to the toxic effects of these substances.

Back in June, the Metro Nashville Police announced there was no indication of foul play in Tay Keith’s death. Officers conducting a wellness check found him unresponsive in his apartment.

Renowned as a leading figure in hip-hop production during the late 2010s, Tay Keith pioneered a vibrant trap-influenced sound that became chart-topping. He achieved 11 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including four number-one tracks such as Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode” and Drake and J. Cole’s “First Person Shooter.”

In addition to garnering two Grammy nominations, he also secured six number-one hits on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart this decade, more than any other producer.

Family Releases Statement

“Brytavious was a visionary producer, songwriter, entrepreneur, philanthropist and cultural force whose work helped define the sound of a generation from Memphis to the global stage. He shaped countless hit records and left a lasting mark on music and culture,” Keith’s family said in a statement released on June 21 through his Drumatized label.

The family continued, “Above all, Brytavious was a beloved son, brother, uncle, family member and friend. While the world knew him as Tay Keith, his family knew him as Brytavious, a source of love, strength, laughter, and guidance.”

“We take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through the music he created, the opportunities he provided, and the lives he touched.”
