The Notorious B.I.G.‘s publishing and publicity rights are reportedly close to being sold for the asking price of $100 million to $150 million to Primary Wave.
According to reports, the late rapper’s brief catalog is up for $100 million, as are his master rights, which are commanding an additional $30 million to $50 million.
The two categories will supposedly include publicity rights (involving his name), image, voice and “other identifiable characteristics like key verses in lyrics,” while the masters cover the recorded works rather than the compositions that are part of his publishing rights.
The whole deal is said to encompass 50 percent of both publishing and master rights, with the right of publicity included.
While the transaction price is unclear, the deal is on its way to close, likely in the next couple of weeks
Biggie will join an already impressive roster of legends at Primary Wave, including Bob Marley, Whitney Houston, Stevie Nicks and Luther Vandross.
The news arrives shortly after the death of the Biggie’s mom, Voletta Wallace, on February 21.
