Tupac Shakurâs estate is threatening to sue Drake for using AI-generated vocals of the late rapper.
The estateâs attorneys have sent a cease-and-desist letter to the Toronto artist over his use of an AI-generated imitation of 2Pac’s voice in a new song, calling it “a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest Hip-Hop artists of all time.”
They have given Drake 24 hours to pull the track from social media before they take official legal action to sue the Canadian artist.
In a letter statement, it outlines: âThe Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupacâs voice and personality. The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupacâs voice and personality.â
The Estate also seems to have an issue with Drake using Tupacâs vocals as a way to diss Kendrick Lamar
âThe unauthorized, equally dismaying use of Tupacâs voice against Kendrick Lamar, a good friend to the Estate who has given nothing but respect to Tupac and his legacy publicly and privately, compounds the insult.â
Drake released the song âTaylor Made Freestyle,â a follow-up diss track aimed at former collaborator Kendrick Lamar, on Instagram.
In the track, AI Tupac raps: âIf you deal with this viciously/ You seem a little nervous about all the publicity/ Fuck this Canadian lightskin.â
Itâs unclear if Snoop Dogg, whose voice was also featured on âTaylor Made,â is planning to raise similar legal objections to Drakeâs track.
A rep for Drake declined to comment on the demands of the Shakur estate.
