Vic Mensa has dropped a new track, “What You Taught Us,” which the rapper said served as a posthumous letter to revered designer and DJ Virgil Abloh. Abloh passed away on Sunday after a private, years-long battle with cancer.

Vic shared the two-minute track via SoundCloud Tuesday morning, paired with a photo of the rapper and Abloh together.

Virgil Abloh is synonymous with visionary. To see him go from DJing Superfun parties in Chicago that Hollywood Holt would sneak me in when I was 16 to revolutionizing the way we think about design and its applications is a true inspiration to a generation that was blessed to be raised under his tutelage. Legends never die!

On the track, Mensa reflects on Abloh’s life and the legacy he left behind. Abloh’s enormous imprint on hip-hop culture as a streetwise icon, album designer and musician has left many artists reflecting on the impact Abloh had on their work. Tyler the Creator and Frank Ocean shared heartfelt farewells to Abloh on social media. Kanye West dedicated his most recent Sunday Service to Abloh, the creative director of Donda. And Lil Uzi Vert shared an Instagram post reflecting on his long-time relationship with Abloh, who was one of the first to predict trap, and Uzi’s, ride in mainstream hip hop.
