Will Smith is facing a lawsuit from former tour violinist Brian King Joseph, who alleges sexual harassment and wrongful termination.
Joseph filed the suit on December 30 in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles, as reported by NBC News. According to the claims, he was hired in November 2024 to perform on Smith’s “Based on a True Story” album and be part of the subsequent “Based on a True Story: 2025 Tour”.
However, Joseph describes experiencing a series of unsettling events during the tour stop in Las Vegas in March 2025.
The filing details an incident where Joseph’s luggage, including his hotel room key, was misplaced by Will Smith’s team. Upon returning to his hotel room, Joseph allegedly found evidence suggesting someone had entered, along with a menacing note that read, “Brian, I’ll be back… just us.”
Furthermore, he reportedly discovered items that were unfamiliar to him, such as HIV medication and hospital discharge papers, which he interpreted as indications of a pending sexual encounter initiated by an unknown individual.
Days after reporting these incidents, Joseph alleges he was terminated by a member of Smith’s management team. He claims his concerns were dismissed, and he was accused of fabricating the story. The situation reportedly caused him significant distress, including PTSD and other mental health struggles linked to the termination.
Allen B. Grodsky, Smith’s attorney, firmly refuted the allegations in a statement to People magazine, calling them false and baseless. Grodsky emphasized that the claims were categorically denied and expressed determination to pursue all legal avenues to establish the truth.
“Mr. Joseph’s allegations concerning my client are false, baseless, and reckless,” Grodsky’s statement reads. “They are categorically denied, and we will use all legal means available to address these claims and to ensure that the truth is brought to light.”
To date, Will Smith has not made any personal comments addressing the accusations.
