Wiz Khalifa could face prison time after a Romanian court declined his appeal against a drug possession case.
This follows his attempt to overturn a nine-month sentence filed last month. The rapper, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was arrested by Romanian authorities in July 2024 during the Beach, Please! Festival after reportedly smoking cannabis on stage.
Authorities claim the 38-year-old was found with over 18 grams of the drug.
In what appeared to be an acknowledgment of the incident, Wiz shared an apology to Romania via a post on X on July 14, expressing regret for “lighting up on stage.”
“They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time,” he continued.
Initially, in April, Wiz was fined 3,600 lei (approximately $830 USD) for “illegal possession of dangerous drugs.” However, prosecutors pushed for stricter penalties. After his appeal was deemed unfounded, the case remains unresolved.
The rapper is currently navigating a string of personal challenges. Earlier this month, he announced the passing of his father, Laurence W. Thomaz.
“I will always love him, miss him and be [grateful] for the things he taught me. He went out like a true yogi, at peace and on his own time. I love you forever Laurence W. Thomaz,” Wiz shared on X.
He also posted a series of childhood photos on Instagram Stories featuring moments with his father, accompanied by the caption “Love you big guy.”
Wiz had a strong bond with his father, who had previously spoken about how the birth of Wiz’s son, Sebastian, profoundly changed the rapper’s outlook.
“Sebastian’s matured him, but it’s made him more serious and understand: ‘I have to be here; I can’t do the dangerous, reckless things I was doing before: I have this little guy to look out for,’” Thomaz said in a 2019 documentary.
