Ice-T, born Tracy Lance Marrow in Newark, New Jersey, has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. For the occasion, the rapper donned a black fedora and black jacket with sparkling swirl patterns — along with a pair of sunglasses that he said were “not for fashion.”

The Gangsta Rap pioneer and actor received the star in a ceremony a day after his 65th birthday, where he was joined by fellow rapper Chuck D and his “Law & Order: SVU” co-star Mariska Hargitay and series creator Dick Wolf. In his speech, Ice-T also gave a special mention to Ice Cube for co-creating Gangsta Rap, crediting him for giving the genre a name.

In the audience sat his wife, Coco, and their 7-year-old daughter, Chanel, who would later join her papa at the podium. Ice Cube, comedian Mike Epps and Def Jam founder Russell Simmons were also on hand for the celebration.

“Ice has appeared in more of my shows than anyone else on Earth. It goes back now 25 years,” Wolf said. “I’m now gonna show how old I am by saying, ‘Ice is the coolest guy I have ever met,’ and I’ve said that to him. I don’t know what the term for it is — ‘the bomb’? I don’t know.”

“I’d like to thank everybody that came up and said all that stuff about me,” he said, referring to the Hargitay, Wolf and Chuck D. “I wore these sunglasses not for fashion, but I knew they (the speakers) might make me cry.”

Ice-T took a moment to thank his biggest motivators and offer the audience some words of inspiration.

“Last but not least… I wanna thank the muthafuckin’ haters,” he proclaimed. “‘Cause you really make me get up in the morning and be the best I can be. All the naysayers, all the people that wanted to end my career; now I’m on the Walk of Fame, bitch ass muthafuckas. And that’s the motivation!

“You gotta let them haters motivate you,” he continued. “If you wanna go in the gym, go on the YouTube, see somebody talking shit about you, then go get your reps in, you understand what I’m sayin’? If it wasn’t for the haters, I definitely wouldn’t have pulled this off, I swear to God! Thank you SO much, Imma give you so much more to hate in the future, trust me.”
