Three years after experiencing a dramatic brain aneurysm in 2021, Dr. Dre is reflecting on his health challenges.
The rapper and producer sat down with James Corden on “Cordenβs This Life Of Mine” show on SiriusXM, opening up about having “three strokes” while in the hospital for his 2021 brain aneurysm.
βIt definitely makes you appreciate being alive, thatβs for sure. Itβs something you canβt control, it just happens. During those two weeks, I had three strokes,β Dre told Corden.
The Compton-born also recalled the aneurysm first starting, describing βthe worst pain I ever felt.β
βI got up and went about my day, and I thought I could lay down and take a nap,β Dre said. βMy son and a female friend were like βno, we need to take you to the hospital. Next thing you know, Iβm blacking out, Iβm in and out of consciousness and I end up in the ICU. I was there for two weeks. Iβm hearing doctors come in βyou donβt know how lucky you are.β I asked questions about what I couldβve done to prevent this, no one could give me an answer.β
“I had no idea that I had high blood pressure or anything like that because Iβm on my health s—. Iβm lifting weights, Iβm running, Iβm doing everything I can to keep myself healthy,” said Dre.
Dre also heaped praise to his longtime collaborator and mentee Eminem, who he called βthe best emcee ever.β
βLong story short, I met Eminem at Jimmy Iovineβs office, we slapped hands, went to the studio and started recording,β he said. βThe first four albums, was just me and [Eminem]. His writing and his delivery and his imagination is off the charts. I donβt think anyone would disagree with that. I donβt think anyone thatβs rapping can touch Eminem on that microphone.β
