Drake has officially withdrawn his petition against Spotify and Universal Music Group after the Canadian artist accused them of inflating the numbers of Kendrick Lamarās diss track āNot Like Us.ā
Drizzle took action in November 2024, alleging that the music companies had used bots, payola and other methods to promote Lamar’s song, which accused him of paedophilia.
“The record-shattering spread of ‘Not Like Us’ on streaming, sales, and radio play was deliberate and appears to have relied upon irregular and inappropriate business practices,” court documents alleged.
On Tuesday, Drake’s lawyers voluntarily withdrew a pre-action filing, effectively ending the case.
Drake’s music company, Frozen Moments, LLC, is discontinuing the legal proceedings with no financial cost to any of the parties involved; Spotify, which previously filed an opposition, had no objection to the withdrawal while UMG āreserved its position on the matter.ā
āSpotify has no economic incentive for users to stream ‘Not Like Us’ over any of Drakeās tracks,ā a spokesperson for the streaming service said following the allegations.
Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us” was widely regarded as the decisive blow in a long-running feud between Drake and Lamar, which dates back to the early 2010s.
The track reached #1 on the Hot 100, marking Lamarās fourth-ever US #1, and his second that year, following “Like That” by Future, Metro Boomin and Kendrick Lamar, which hit #1 in April.
