Mystikal‘s legal troubles persist as the aftermath of his 2022 rape case continues to unfold, now extending into civil court proceedings.

Michael Tyler, better known as the rapper Mystikal, pleaded guilty to third-degree rape earlier this month in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, concluding a prolonged criminal case.

Originally charged with first-degree rape — alleging that he sexually assaulted a woman at his home in Prairieville — the charge was reduced under a plea agreement, enabling Tyler to avoid a potential sentence of life imprisonment. Following his plea, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Although the criminal case has officially concluded, its repercussions remain ongoing. During the sentencing hearing, the victim delivered a powerful statement to the court, sharing how the assault profoundly affected her life.

Tyler had sought to withdraw his guilty plea just days prior, citing emotional distress at the time he agreed to the deal; however, the request was denied.

According to Complex, court documents filed in 2023 reveal the victim’s harrowing account of the events, further shedding light on her ordeal.

She claimed that the incident was sparked by Mystikal accusing her of stealing from him, and “when she denied it,” he “struck Plaintiff in the face with a closed fist.”

At one point, the victim stated that she requested to use the restroom but was only allowed to do so under the condition that the rapper could watch her. She then reported that she was sexually assaulted. Additionally, the victim mentioned that after the incident, she was so concerned for her safety that she decided to relocate.

“This battery ensued for several minutes. During the battery, Defendant choked Plaintiff to such a point that she almost lost consciousness. Defendant continued to accuse Plaintiff of stealing money. Each time Plaintiff denied stealing money, Defendant struck her again. During the battery, Defendant made Plaintiff strip off her pants. Plaintiff sustained bruises, scrapes, a laceration, missing hair, and a broken fingernail.”

“While she was using the bathroom, Defendant spit in her face and threw rubbing alcohol in her face,” the documents reportedly show.

“Defendant then grabbed a pair of scissors and began to swing them violently and threatened Plaintiff. Defendant eventually told Plaintiff they needed to pray. He had her kneel by his bedside, and he knelt beside her. They knelt for a few minutes and prayed.”
