YoungBoy Never Broke Again recently targeted Gillie Da Kid, referencing the tragic death of Gillie’s son, which elicited a response from the Philadelphia rapper.

On Tuesday, July 14, YB shared a song snippet on social media in which he criticized Gillie. This came as a surprise, given their previous positive interaction during an interview on the Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast hosted by Gillie and Wallo. In his lyrics, YB mentioned contemplating harm towards Gillie, alleging that Gillie hadn’t sought revenge for his son.

Gillie’s son, YNG Cheese, was fatally shot in Philadelphia in 2023. Two years later, Gillie disclosed that law enforcement had informed him that drill rapper Noah Scurry was responsible for the incident, but Scurry himself had been killed earlier that year.

Following the release of YB’s song snippet, Gillie took to Instagram Live to address the situation. He expressed that even if he were to seek retribution for his son’s death, it wouldn’t be something broadcasted online, as that’s not how he operates.

“I’m an old school n**ga,” a calm Gillie said. “We don’t say what we was going to do on the internet and all that type of sh*t. That’s kid sh*t. Like if you were going to do something, you would’ve done it.”

He also mentioned that he isn’t bothered by the diss, attributing it to the nature of rap music.

“I don’t take it no type of way,” he said. “You can’t make me feel no type of way mentioning my son. I already come to grips with what happened. […] I’m not threatened.”
